Speech by Mohan Valrani at the Indian High School to celebrate the 50 years Golden Jubilee anniversary of the school.
Teaching is the choicest Profession because everybody who is anybody was taught how to be somebody by a teacher.
Honorable Guests, Members of the Board of Trustees, Members of the Managing Committee, Parents, Teachers, Staff of the Indian High School, Boys & Girls, let us welcome Dr. Abdullah Al Karam, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of KHDA. I also would like to take this opportunity to welcome:
Let me start this event by paying homage to a very passionate teacher late Hemkalaben Bhatia. She started the school in her one bedroom apartment in the year 1960, and was the first Indian teacher in Dubai. The Indian High School was started in a porta-cabin with two teachers on roll. Today the Indian High School has 10,000 Students, 250 staff, 600 teachers. The Indian High School has got the eIndia 2010 award for the lCT enabled school of the year category in digital learning by Government of India. The new School is being built at Dubai Silicon Oasis with an investment of 100 Million Dirhams, which will add another 3,000 students. This school is going to be a truly international school with state of art facilities. I would like to thank the Chairman’s Council and the Board of Trustees for giving me the opportunity to serve the community by selecting me as The Chairman of Indian High School and the Board of Trustees. I am not only Chairman of the School, but also a student of the school. I have learnt a lot and I have been enlightened in the last two and a half years. Education is a lifelong process and the world of education is fascinating. The desire to learn is never ending. One day I would like to be a teacher in this school, but it seems difficult because the retirement age is 65 and I am already 70 years old. The Chairman’s Council and the Board of Trustees have contributed a lot to the success of the Indian High School. I would like to thank my colleagues in the Managing Committee for being supportive in good and bad times and would also like to thank the honorary advisors whose contribution to the school is invaluable. All the achievements would not have been possible, but for the hard work and cooperation of the CEO, Teachers, Students, Parents, administrative staff of the Indian High School. Ladies and Gentlemen, please give them a big round of applause. “He who opens the school door, closes the prison.” Indian High School has many ambitious plans and with dynamic Board of Trustees I am sure that we will have more schools so that the world should not have any more prison.
Thank you very much.
